Ayurveda is a discipline that brings us closer to our search for truth. The term Ayruveda combines the Sanskrit words "ayur" meaning life and "veda" meaning science or knowledge.
Ayurveda speaks in depth of Prana, the life force that resides in our breath, Tejas, which sheds light on our body, mind and soul and Ojas the container which houses our spirit as it offers strength, protection and an ability to endure stress.
Ayurveda addresses our multi dimensional nature in that we exist simultaneously on a number of levels. These are layers of physical matter (anatomy), energy (breath), mind, emotions, beliefs, desires and memories. These combine to form our being.
Ayurveda as a lifestyle offers a deep sense of wellbeing and connection to nature and the forces of life. Seasons, time of day, age in life, the foods we eat, the sounds we hear are some of the things considered when living Ayurvedically. Proper sleep, physical activity, proper work, retreat and recreation are requirements to a happy healthy life.
